An exciting school year with PCF Blk 515!

As we welcome the new term, let us look back on some of our special programmes and achievements of our pupils!

Ongoing Special Programmes:

Comics-In-Education (Niche Programme) – Comics will be incorporated into classroom lessons, making them more interesting and fun.

DEAR Programme (National Library Board) – This programme, allows the kindergarten to borrow up to 2000 books each term. To encourage children to read, each child gets to borrow a book over the weekend. Parent and child will have some quality time together, and the child is encouraged to share what they had read to their peers during Circle Time.

Fruity Friday – To promote healthy eating, children are encouraged to bring their own fruit for snack every Friday. Teachers will then let the children know the benefits of eating fruits and vegetables.

Discovery Centre – The centre has set up a Discovery Centre at the common area. Teachers will bring the children to the Discovery Centre once every fortnight. At the Discovery Centre, the teachers and children will do experiments, observations and hands-on activities and the children have to record down the process in the recording sheet. The teachers and children are also taking turns to take care of the fishes in the tank.

On-going Partnership with the Community

Bukit Batok Driving Centre (BBDC) – BBDC officers are invited to give the children talks on road safety.

Jurong West Neighbourhood Police Centre – Officers from Jurong West NPC are invited to raise the child’s awareness on the job scope of the police and also the dangers around the children.

Shuqun Primary School – Shuqun Primary School will arrange for a guided tour during their open house every year in collaboration with the Centre. The K2 children will visit the primary school to familiarise with the settings and prepared them for Primary One.

South West CDC – After communicating with South West CDC, they were kind enough to provide us with some paint to create a mural on the walls outside our centre. It will be a collaborative effort between our pupils and teachers.

Parental Involvement – During celebrations like Deepavali, Hari Raya, Chinese New Year etc, parents are invited to come share with us some of their specialities and traditions with the children.

–     PSG (Parent Support Group) – We have plans to set up PSG by next year and welcome volunteers.

Contests – Teachers will look out for appropriate contests and competitions for children to participate.

–     Google4 Doodle – Our K2 pupils participated in the competition for Google, titled “doodle4google”. The theme was on “Our Singapore”. The pupils were encouraged to think of landmarks, food and symbols that represent our country and design a doodle for Google. One of our students, Nurdeanna Bella’s entry was selected as one of the top 10 entries.

–     Joy of Reading With Dad – To participate, daddies are encouraged to read 2 different language books to their child and to fill in some details of the book on the form for submission.
