An annual outreach community event leading to F1, a motorsports carnival was held at Jurong Central Park on 4th September 2011. It was a fabulous event with participants doing go-karting in the west.

Know a good neighbour? Nominate him/her for the Good Neighbour Award (GNA) 2011. Your neighbour can be someone who has enriched your community and living in an HDB flat or in the private housing estate nearby.

Nominations can be submitted online. Alternatively, you can pick up a nomination form at any HDB Branch Office or Community Clubs/Centres. Nomination closes on 31 August 2011.

Dear All, Jurong Police Division is offering a free alert service to our residents and community partners. Subscribers will receive e-mail advisories relating to crimes, safety and security in the neighbourhood. The advisory/newsletter will be conveyed through email and intends to:

- Serve as a reminder to community in their role in helping to look out for crime trends in the neighbourhood/community 

- Provide guidance on what to do and what to look out for (In terms of crime prevention)

The CAS application forms will be made available at the front-counter of Jurong West NPC, Boon Lay NPP, Jurong NPP and Hong Kah South NPP.

Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister of State for Defence and Education, Member of Parliament for West Coast GRC has launched the opening of Macdonalds over the weekend at Jurong Central Park together.

Boon Lay community is also very grateful that Macdonalds’ Singapore is also helping to do its part in contributing to the community, donating $5000 to the needy people and helping us to build a more cohesive Boon Lay.

PAYM Policy Forum @ West Coast GRC: What does FAMILY mean to (YOU)ths?

Youth *SCAPE Orchard

This was the question posed to more than 80 youths during the PAYM Policy Forum @ West Coast GRC, organised by the YECs of West Coast GRC and spearheaded by Boon Lay YEC. The forum took place at the happening Youth *SCAPE Orchard, within the hexagonal glass walls of the Gallery on 16th April 2011.

Departing from traditional presentations and Q&A sessions, this forum explored family-related issues and policies through the innovative channel of interactive theatre.

First up was a skit put up by 6 professionally-trained thespians to introduce the 5 topics for discussion– namely singlehood, cohabitation, single parenthood, baby bonus and HDB incentives. The humorous antics of the old-fashioned Mdm Tan and her children who all had unconventional views about family certainly kick started the forum on a high note.

After getting a good laugh, the participants then debated their pre-assigned issue in their own discussion groups and in the process, selected a representative to present their point-of-view on “stage” later on.

Our guest-of-honour, Mdm Ho Geok Choo, along with the other panelists and special guest Mr Lawrence Wong, joined the groups in their intense discussions.

During the “interactive” segment of the forum, the participants showcased their creativity and acting talents by posing as quirky characters and even taking on cross-gender roles.

The panelists and other participants were also invited to comment at any point during the interactive play, thus building up a spontaneous three-way dialogue.

The distinguished panelists included Mdm Ho, National Family Council member and lawyer Mrs Jessie Ho, academic Dr Mathew Mathews and youth and family counsellor Ms Jacqueline Heng. The panelists shared not only their areas of expertise with the audience, but also their own family experiences.

Even though the dialogue touched on weighty issues such as low fertility rates and housing policies, it still remained light-hearted as the group representatives and actors freely engaged in verbal jousting. The fun format of the forum definitely emboldened the participants to speak their minds on issues close to their hearts.

We’re all family!

Even if at the end of the day, there were more questioned asked than answered, everyone walked away rejuvenated by a thought-provoking and highly entertaining session.

Participants also got to enjoy a sumptuous sushi spread sponsored by Sakae Sushi and walked away with a FAMILY shirt which they can personalize as well as a reader-friendly information booklet.
